That Modern Day Religion

What's the problem with living in a country whose citizens buy into more religious bullshit than a cult? There's no shortage of people willing to believe anything. Hell, they believe that the church that constantly needs their money has their best intentions in mind (as opposed to the church's best intentions, i.e.: survival and the accumulation of wealth and power).

All of these people firmly believe in changing the world for what their religion/pastor deems the better, yet when the time comes they get on their $1000+ mac, log on Facebook, and cry about injustice, poverty, and sinning while the rest of the world goes to shit around them. But it's ok, they're whining will some day make a difference to the starving child in Africa. Oh wait, it wont. While they could be donating to the starving child in Africa, or actually following what their faith tells them, they're too busy buying the latest and greatest crap they don't need at prices only someone who buys into outright bullshit would pay.

Don't get me wrong, as an American I'm all for buying stuff, but the outright hypocrisy these people commit on a daily basis, yet fail to see it, is astounding.

The only thing I've seen most members of religion (mainly Christianity) do with the majority of their actions is trample over everyone else in a game of "who's the better Christian".

Welcome to religion, leave your brain at the door.

  2. Interesting points, I am from Britain, and all though I see religion everywhere in the media and what not, I never see it much around me.. What's it like in USA? seems like it would be unbearable. I can't stand how religious people seem to answer everything with such dumb answers, things like - If God created the world 6000 years ago then how come there is scientific proof that earth has existed for over 13 billion years?
"God is just testing your faith."

  3. Your example of religious people is pretty much how it is over here. Reason goes out the window and any opportunity they can use to justify themselves they do, even if it goes against their beliefs (ironically).

It's not unbearable. I only get it bad because I go to college at an institution with a religious background. You're pretty much guaranteed to run into people like that in any religious country.

  4. Following up on that last post, there are good ones, but they're the minority and just end up getting trampled on by the misguided extremists.

  7. Way to tell it like it is. I guess this kind of stuff is exactly why I've never been into religion myself, it's all pretty silly and unnecessary.

  10. Religion is responsible for some positives, but it's also been a huge detractor to productivity as a world, and it's caused more violence than almost anything.

  13. "To say who am I to know is to say who am I to live."

I live by that quote everyday. And if you learn a little bit about religion, you soon realize that it's the world's greatest scam.
